Erdek Cooperative
History
Our cooperative decided to join to "Association of Bursa Olive and Koza Agriculture Sale Cooperative" with the decision taken in its general assembly meeting held on 14.09.1953. The cooperative performed its activities under this association for some while. Then, as it has not succeeded in achieving its goals, the cooperative separated from Bursa Olive and Koza Agriculture Sales Cooperative on 22.05.1954. Shareholders decided to establish an Association of Olive Agriculture Sale Cooperatives by the participation of Cooperatives in Gemlik, Mudanya, and Erdek. This cooperative has been the first founder member of the Association of Marmara Olive Agriculture Sale Cooperatives.
Started to business with 45 partners, our cooperative now serves over 4,897 partners, thanks to the proper market, service and price policy provided to the partners.
Our cooperative had no immovable property in the initial years. We covered the management offices and olive depot demands of our cooperative through leasing.
By the year 1952, as a result of the devoted efforts of all managers and administrators, a 300 m2 management building in the Alaaddin Neighborhood, a warehouse numbered 5,6, and 7 built on 6304 m2 and warehouses no 1,2,3, and 4 established on 1543 m2 in Yalı Neighborhood Hükümet Street, a sales store, an olive oil factory, and 2 company houses were joined in our cooperative.
In May 2005, depots numbered 1,2,3, and 4 were terminated as they completed their lifecycle. On 25.12.2004, a 35.000 m2 field at the Erdek Gedeve location was purchased for warehousing purposes.
During the initial years, the olive supply capacity of our partners to our cooperative was approximately 40-50 tons per year, which corresponds to 9,000 tons per year, thanks to the partner’s trust and the financial and economical supports provided by our cooperative to its partners.
Trillions of fees paid to the partners for the products satisfy the partner producers of our cooperative.
Due to the low business volume of our cooperative during the early years of establishment, only 3-4 personnel were employed; due to the rapid development today, our cooperative employs 1 director, 1 accountant, 1 cashier, 5 officers, 1 janitor, 7 experts and expert assistants, 2 drivers, and 10 workers. The cooperative also provides work opportunity for people of the region, by employing temporary workers during the product purchase period.
We remember with great gratitude the executives who brought our cooperative to this day, and other managers worked and selected according to the foundation chart of the cooperative.
