Mudanya Cooperative

History

The headquarters of L.L. Mudanya Olive A.S. Cooperative is located at Mudanya, located at 28-29 longitude and 40-41 latitude. Mudanya shares borders with Gemlik in the east, Karacabey in the west, Bursa in the south, and Gemlik gulf in the north. Mudanya Mountains, lying from Gemlik to Esence Gulf constitute a barrier between the Bursa plateau and the Marmara Sea. The highest attitude is at Üsküp head with 600 m, and the major brook is Nilüfer Brook. The geography is steep with a coastal length of 55 Km. The area of the district is 346 km². Mediterranean climate is the dominant climate of the district. Summer seasons are hot and arid, while winter seasons mild and rainy. The average temperature per year is 16.7, with a maximum of 34.3 and a minimum of -6 Celsius degree. The coldest month is February, having rainfall of 614 mm per year.

The population is 53,965 according to the 2000 general census. The district has two municipalities, Güzelyalı and Zeytinbağı (Melekler Island), and 36 villages. In 1951, 47 olive producers found 150 Mudanya Koza Olive Agriculture Sale Cooperative; in 1952 the name was altered to 150 Mudanya Olive Agriculture Sale Cooperative. According to the decision reached by the board on 28.03.1954 with the number 48, MARMARABİRLİK is founded as an olive cooperatives association covering cooperatives in Mudanya and Erdek. 

An alteration was made in the articles of association in 2001, limiting the territory of activity of the association, the phrase “limited liability” was added to the title of the cooperative, and its name was altered as L.L. 150 Mudanya Olive Agriculture Sale Cooperative. Our cooperative has 88 partner territories, which are as follows: Mudanya district, Osmangazi, Nilüfer, M.Kemalpaşa, and Karacabey districts and villages. The number of registered partnerships is 7,129 people in these villages. Our cooperative performs its activities with 30 personnel at 6 depots each with a storage capacity of 13,000 tons, with 1135 pools for product ripening and stocking.

The objective of the cooperative has been to establish cooperation among the producers, to provide their requirements, to help producers use their product in the best way, and to improve their economic benefits. Mudanya district covers 2,350,000 olive trees, yielding 40,000 tons per year.

L.L. 150 Mudanya Olive Agriculture Sale Cooperative is a productive organization, servicing over 30,000 people as well as their family members. The fundamental role of the cooperative has been to increase the value of olive production of partner producers while serving the best-quality and healthy olives to the consumers’ taste.

Especially the table olives, produced in the of the district with suitable climate and geographical conditions have worldwide popularity.
